Silver Connections Heritage Initiative | Cultural Bonds × Intergenerational Inclusion

Seniors are invaluable treasures of cultural heritage and vital bridges to a more inclusive society. Through the “Silver Connections Heritage Initiative”, Culture Heir Hong Kong uses the craftmanship of Hong Kong’s ICH as a medium to stimulate creativity and boost self-confidence among elders. We train them to become cultural mentors, empowering them to pass their skills and knowledge to members of all generations within the community.

Programme Features

01.

Skill Revitalization & Innovative Design

Features an “All-Ages Material Kit” specially designed for intergenerational learning. Accessible to everyone from 6-year-old children to 85-year-old seniors, it presents traditional cultural crafts through simplified and innovative methods, lowering the barrier to entry without compromising cultural depth.

02.

Elder Empowerment & Mentor Training

Provides seniors with cultural craft workshops, complemented by training in teaching techniques, to help them transition from learners to community culture mentors. Seniors infuse their life experiences into teaching; many possess expertise in traditional skills like calligraphy, making the knowledge transfer warmer and more profound, allowing them to reclaim social roles and a sense of pride.

03.

Intergenerational Learning & Community Network Building

Senior mentors lead community workshops, teaching children, families, and other groups to create traditional items like miniature Fa Pai and lion dance heads. This promotes interaction and understanding between generations, ensuring culture continues through this transfer of knowledge.
